Celebrating 20 Years of Healing, Growth & Gratitude

Two decades of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the late-summer season that asks us to slow down, digest, and prepare for autumn.

20 Years… Thanks to You

Twenty years ago, I opened my practice with a simple goal:

Helping people understand why they don’t feel well — not just where they hurt.

Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of meeting thousands of incredible people. Some came in with pain, others with migraines, digestive issues, allergies, anxiety, Parkinson’s disease, insomnia, fertility challenges, autoimmune conditions, or simply because they “just didn’t feel like themselves.”

One of the greatest joys has been watching patients realize that healing isn’t about masking symptoms — it’s about restoring the body’s ability to heal itself.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your health journey. Your trust, referrals, reviews, and friendships have made these twenty years incredibly meaningful. Every treatment is still an opportunity to learn, improve, and help someone feel like themselves again.

Late Summer & the Earth Element

While many people think of only four seasons, Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes Late Summer as its own unique season, governed by the Earth Element.

The Earth Element is associated with:

  • Digestion
  • Energy production
  • Immune resilience
  • Mental clarity
  • Muscle strength
  • Worry & overthinking

Think of your digestive system as the foundation of your health. When it’s functioning well, your body can efficiently transform food into energy, Blood, and the building blocks needed for healing. When it’s overworked, even the healthiest diet can’t provide its full benefit.

As summer’s pace begins to slow, now is an ideal time to strengthen this foundation before the cooler months arrive.

Don’t Let Summer Burn You Out

After months of vacations, long days, heat, travel, and irregular schedules, many people begin to notice:

  • Afternoon fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Digestive upset
  • Bloating
  • Increased worry
  • Sugar cravings
  • Poor sleep
  • Muscle tightness

Rather than reaching for more caffeine or skipping meals, try supporting your digestion first. This month, focus on:

  • Warm, cooked breakfasts
  • Homemade soups & stews
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Barley, oats, millet, rice
  • Sweet potatoes & squash
  • Moderate portions, eaten slowly
  • Plenty of hydration — minus the ice

Even during August, your digestive system generally functions more efficiently with foods that are warm or room temperature.

August Wellness Challenge

Choose one healthy habit and practice it every day for the month:

  • Eat without looking at your phone (or other screen).
  • Take a 15-minute walk after dinner.
  • Soak your feet in comfortably hot water for 20 minutes before bed.
  • Spend five quiet minutes practicing slow breathing.
  • Go to bed 30 minutes earlier.

Small habits practiced consistently often create bigger changes than dramatic lifestyle overhauls.

Prevention Is the Greatest Medicine

Many people seek acupuncture only when symptoms become severe. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, however, the greatest medicine is prevention. Treating subtle imbalances before they become chronic can help:

  • Improve digestion
  • Maintain energy
  • Sleep more deeply
  • Reduce stress
  • Support immune function
  • Minimize seasonal allergies
  • Recover faster from activity
  • Prepare for autumn & winter

Patient Appreciation

One of the greatest compliments you can give a small practice is introducing someone you care about. If acupuncture has made a positive difference in your life, consider:

  • Refer a friend — both get 20% off
  • Share your story
  • Leave a Google review

Your support has helped this practice grow almost entirely through word of mouth over the past 20 years — and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Here’s to the Next 20 Years

As we move toward autumn, our focus will shift from staying cool to building resilience. This is one of my favorite times of year to help patients strengthen digestion, replenish energy reserves, support the immune system, and prepare for the colder months ahead.

Whether you’ve been with the practice for twenty years or twenty days… thank you for being part of this journey.

Here’s to the next twenty years of helping people feel healthier, stronger, and more connected to themselves.

With gratitude,
Mark
